Cahaba Village for the Cure

Last night my family went over to Cahaba Village in Mountain Brook to support “Cahaba Village for the Cure.”

My sister-in-law, Paige, is a rock star, y’all. She is the catering director for Newk’s and was in charge of organzing and planning this event, and it gets better every year she’s a part of it. The purpose of the event is to encourage Birminghamians to get out and support their local businesses so that those businesses can, in turn, support the North Central Alabama Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

This year, the event included a scavenger hunt with some amazing prizes (like a $250 gift certificate to shop at Diamonds Direct….yes please!) as well as a live jazz band and, as always, delicious samples of food and drink.

We began our evening a Newk’s (of course), and I was left wondering why I’ve never had their chicken salad before.

Well, now I have, and I have no idea what took me so long because it is outstanding. I wasn’t sure I would love the spicy creole mustard they use on it, but boy was I wrong. That will definitely be in the rotation as a favorite dish from there.

After dinner, we wandered around between the shops, making sure to fill out our scavenger hunt form along the way.

Obviously, we had to make a pit stop at Yogurt Mountain for some dessert. The girls love this place (and mama and daddy too, obviously), and while we were there the girls got to spin the prize wheel and they both won t-shirts! The night was definitely off to a good start.

After YoMo, we wandered back by Mountain High Outfitters just because, and what did we happen upon? Why just the cutest little sparkly red TOMS you’ve ever seen and¬†they were BOGO! So, of course, we had to get them (thanks Granna and Paw-Paw), and, of course, the girls had to wear them out of the store. They were so proud of their new “sparkly red shoes.”

To round out the night, we went back down to Newk’s where the live band was playing. Caroline got the dancing bug, and just couldn’t stop moving her feet. Luckily, the YoMo mascot was right there to dance the night away with her! Just when I thought my kiddos couldn’t get any cuter….

Thanks again to Paige and everyone else who worked tirelessly to put on such a great community event! We can’t wait to do it again next year!
