4 Reasons to Visit Alabama Beaches

I was hosted by the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach Tourism Board for a “Beach Momcation.” While my expenses for the trip were covered, all thoughts posted here are my own.

Y’all know I’m a local gal. I’ve been to Alabama’s beautiful, white, sandy beaches more times than I can count. But what happens when you meet someone who’s never been? And what if that someone wants to know why she should visit Alabama beaches instead of another state? Enter my friend Fadra from All Things Fadra and She’s On the Go. Fadra and I joined forces for a “Beach Momcation” last month, and I hoped to prove to her that Alabama beaches are a worthwhile destination. I even got to do a few things that were new to me too!

4 Reasons to Visit Alabama Beaches

We were treated to so many great places to eat and fun activities to do during our “momcation.” Special shout out to Laura’s Vacation Rentals for our awesome accommodations at the Caribe resort. I woke up each morning with beautiful views of the bay and the ocean. It’s hard to beat a good view. I’m sure you’re dying to know what else, though, right? What else is there to do? Where should I go eat? Keep reading and I’ll answer all those questions and more! The view from the Caribe is one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches.

It’s a Hidden Gem

Alabamians (and some Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida residents) probably don’t consider our beach a “hidden gem,” but Fadra proved to me that they are relatively unknown outside of the south. Why come to Alabama’s beaches? The crowds are much lower than other beaches! Granted, our trip was during shoulder season, but I maintain my positon. I’ve also been at the height of summer and found the crowds to be relatively tame then as well. The beaches are spacious and uncrowded- one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches.

Many Great Food Options

All of the restaurants we ate at were new to me, but I’m glad I tried them! From fancy dining at Voyagers to nostalgic favorite Flora-Bama, we ran the gamut of food choices during our stay.Local favorite drink, the Bushwhacker, is one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches. The Gulf was one of my favorite lunch spots. It sits right on the beach and is incredibly spacious. The view from The Gulf restaurant-one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches.Make sure you try the shrimp tacos! We also discovered Rum Sisters, which sells gourmet alcohol infused cakes that are delicious in every way (and safe for pregnant ladies and kids)!Cakes by Rum Sisters-one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches. Our last meal was at a brand new restaurant, Salt, which was a bit more upscale than I expected, but Chef Chris put me at ease. He chose our meal for us (a first for me!), and I was extremely impressed. It was definitely the best meal of the trip!Salt is the best restaurant in town-one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches.

Plenty of Activities

During our “momcation,” the Visit AL Beaches Facebook page was a blur of activity! Fans and followers got to vote on all of our activities which included choices like a spa day at The Beach Club or yoga on the beach with GLOW Yoga and paddle boarding with Gulf Coast Paddle Company or kayaking with Coastal Kayak Excursions.Make time for the spa-one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches. Whenever I visit the beach with my family, I usually just want to lounge around and relax, so I really had no idea how much there actually is to do in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach!Kayaking in the bay-one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches. I also experienced my first ever Orange Beach Cat Boat tour! Fadra and I had a great time laughing and speeding around the bay like we knew what we were doing!New to me Cat Boat tour-one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches.

Rest and Relaxation

The most obvious reason to visit Alabama beaches is to rest and relax! There are many places which can accomplish this task for you. Visiting The Wharf, a premiere shopping and dining destination, is a relaxing way to spend the afternoon. Catch a movie or just enjoy strolling around for casual window shopping.Sit on the beach and relax-one of many reasons to visit Alabama beaches. Gulf State Park was a short drive from our condo at the Caribe, so of course we had to drive over and check it out. The beach side pavilion makes spending the day on the beach convenient and easy thanks to onsite restrooms and changing areas!Where are the best beaches in the US? Believe it or not, they're in Alabama! Yes, Alabama has beaches. Check out these 4 reasons to visit Alabama beaches, and get started planning your trip today.
