It’s National Lipstick Day! Bet you didn’t know that, huh? I didn’t really either, until I saw it trending on Twitter (thanks social media). It always seems like there is a day for something (thank goodness for National Doughnut Day), but I love the idea of talking about lipstick, so I thought I’d run with it.
As a teen, I hated lipstick. I always felt like it was “too old” and “too much work” for me to worry about. This probably stems from the fact that I’ve been wearing lipstick since I was 3 (ballet recitals, plays, marching band, etc.), so any opportunity I had to shed my “womanly” lipstick was done so with fervor.
Now that I’m older, I’m much more open to the idea of trying new things and breaking all the beauty “rules” that seem to scare women off from products they think aren’t for them. I think you should try as many things as you can, until you find what works for you. Don’t let a preconceived notion about being “too old” or “too young” for a product make you shy away from at least trying it! Borrow from a friend before you commit to it financially if you have to, but for goodness sake TRY IT.These are my top 5 “must have” lip products that I have in my makeup bag at all times.
Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Color Balm
Oh wait, I started with a product that’s not really a lip gloss or a lip stick. Old habits die hard, I guess! In all seriousness, I love this amazing product. It feels great on my lips, comes in a variety of shades, and has just enough color to add a little something extra to my pout. It doesn’t make my lips feel sticky or gooey, and they always seem to feel better after I use it (probably because it’s moisturizing, right?)
Clinique High Impact Lip Colour SPF 15
Now this is some serious lipstick. It stays put for quite a while (it won’t last through eating, but 4-6 hours is good enough wear in my book!) and the colors are rich. Because it is long wearing, you might need a gloss when re-applying because it can cause a little flaking, but I would still highly recommend it for the color and wear-ability.
Rimmel London Show Off Lip Lacquer
I was given a free sample of this in an Influenster Vox Box a while back, but I still love it. The gloss is highly pigmented, so the color is great, but if you over-apply, it can leave your lips feeling a little sticky, so go easy on the application. The colors are so stunning, you don’t need much!
Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hour Lipstick
This is a more inexpensive version of the Clinique lipstick, but this one does stay a little better through eating (although still not perfectly). I have it in pink and red, and the colors are phenomenal.
Juicy Tubes by Lancome
Last but not least, I love these lip gloss tubes because they are the perfect compliment to my lipstick. This color, in particular, isn’t really vibrant, but I love layering it over whatever lipstick I’m wearing.
If I could give any woman 1 beauty tip, besides TRY IT, it would be to layer your products. You can create tons of fun looks without busting your budget if you’ve got at least 2 different products to mix. That tip can apply to eyes, lips, and cheeks!
