Now more than ever, 2019 is the year to be at a Disney Park! So many exciting experiences, attractions, and special events are coming throughout the year. Check out this list of 19 Disney Parks experiences in 2019 and start planning your trip today!
19 Disney Parks Experiences in 2019
Every year, the two stateside Disney Parks offer incredible fun and excitement for people of all ages. In addition to all of the fan favorite events and attractions you can expect at Disneyland and Walt Disney World, there are incredible new things to get excited about as well. These are my favorite 19 Disney Parks experiences in 2019.
Get Your Ears on-A Mickey and Minnie Celebration
2019 is the year of Mickey. Celebrate the Main Mouse that started it all beginning on January 18. Each night, a new laser light projection show will take place along Main Street, U.S.A., the water screens on the Rivers of America, and the front of It’s a Small World. On select nights, Mickey’s Mix Magic fireworks show will light up the park.
Minnie’s Valentine’s Surprise
Next, from January 22 to February 18, festive decor will adorn Main Street, U.S.A. in celebration of the love between Mickey and Minnie. Additionally, a fun new scavenger hunt called “Minnie’s Valentine’s Surprise” will be offered at Disneyland Park.
Disneyland After Dark
Two amazing themed nights are also happening at Disneyland Park! February 7, enjoy “Sweethearts’ Night” and March 7 have a throwback party with “90s Nite.” These two events are specially ticketed and not included with regular park admission.
Mickey’s Soundsational Parade Returns
January 25 will see the return of the nostalgic crowd-pleaser, “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade.” A few new additions to the parade include floats inspired by Mickey pull toys and Chip ‘n’ Dale presenting a giant birthday cake to Mickey.
Celebrate Lunar New Year
It’s the Chinese Year of the Pig, and Disneyland is pulling out all the stops. Kid friendly crafts and special Asian culinary offerings will be available from January 25 to February 17. Mulan is back to host “Mulan’s Lunar New Year Processional,” and the three little pigs will be on had since it’s the year of the pig!
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Confirmed by Disney CEO, Bob Iger, in an interview with a financial paper, Star Wars fans can rejoice in June of 2019! Galaxy’s Edge, the massive and immersive Star Wars themed expansion will open first at Disneyland in the summer. No specific date has been announced yet, but with the late June opening of Toy Story Land last year, I’m betting on late June for this opening too.
New Rides in California Adventure
Pixar Pier is an amazing place, trust me. It’s so bright and colorful, and they aren’t done adding to it yet! No dates are confirmed yet, but two additions are coming to the pier. The “Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind” and “Jessie’s Critter Carousel” are family friendly rides that will fit in right alongside the Incredicoaster, Toy Story Midway Mania, and the Pixar Pal-A-Round.
Walt Disney World
Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration at Magic Kingdom
Just like “Get Your Ears On” at Disneyland, Walt Disney World is throwing a big party for the classic duo, Mickey and Minnie. From January 18 to September 30, there will be new food offerings, merchandise, entertainment, and a new dance party to boot!
Festivals, Festivals, Festivals
Epcot is the place for festivals, as I’ve written about many times before. I am so excited to get to experience the one festival I haven’t checked off my list yet: International Festival of the Arts! Here are the dates for the festivals this year:
- International Festival of the Arts: January 18 to February 25
- Flower and Garden Festival: March 6 to June 3
- International Food and Wine Festival: Fall (Dates TBA)
- Festival of the Holidays: Late Fall/Winter (Dates TBA)
Pixar Pals Party at Hollywood Studios
Starting on January 18, party with your Pixar favorites on Pixar Avenue in Hollywood Studios. Featured characters include The Incredibles (including Edna Mode!), Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc., and Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and friends!
Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy
Replacing the former “Lights, Motors, Action! Stunt Show,” this new show will debut this spring. Lighting McQueen will host the show, and he will share all the tips and tricks he’s learned from his days around the track. No confirmed debut date just yet, but I’ll be sure to update this post when it is announced.
Hollywood Studios 30th Anniversary
On May 1, Hollywood Studios will celebrate it’s 30th anniversary! It’s always been my favorite park, and I hope it will soon become everyone’s favorite. As part of the anniversary celebration, a new nighttime experience will also begin on May 1. “Wonderful World of Animation” will use state-of-the-art technology to take viewers on a journey through 90 years of Disney animation.
Coronado Springs New Tower Opens
We had the privilege of staying in Coronado Springs this past year. The construction on the 15-story Gran Destino Tower was just beginning, and it’s very exciting to see it nearing completion. Opening this summer, the new building will feature a rooftop restaurant and 545 new guest rooms.
New at Disney Springs
Next, Disney Springs is one of my family’s favorite places to spend time on a Disney vacation. I am still sad (and a little salty) that DisneyQuest has been replaced, but maybe you’ll be a fan of the new NBA Experience. Get hands on with 13 unique activities that allow guest to feel like they are a star player on the court.
It seems like there is always a new restaurant opening at Disney Springs, and there will be another to add to your list in the winter. Jaleo, from Chef Jose Andres, will bring Spanish flair and flavor in a lively setting. Jaleo means “lively,” and it will be a tapas-style restaurant.
Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party
Another chance to dance will happen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the animated classic “The Lion King.” Rafiki and Timon will get the party started with fun and games on January 18.
H20 Glow Nights at Typhoon Lagoon
Typhoon Lagoon is one of Walt Disney World’s amazing water parks. If you haven’t visited yet, consider going during an H20 Glow Night! On Thursdays and Saturdays from May 30 to August 24, join the party with special lighting, food, and music. Celebrate the 30th anniversary of Typhoon Lagoon with pals from Pixar’s Toy Story while you enjoy the rides and attractions. H20 Glow Nights is a separate ticket from regular water park admission.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
RIP, “The Great Movie Ride.” You were always my favorite. Replacing the classic ride will be the first ever ride-through attraction themed to Mickey and Minnie. Guests will go on a journey through Disney animation that will turn from a 2D experience into a multi-dimensional experience. “Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway” will open later in 2019.
Additionally, transportation changes will see new heights with the opening of Disney Skyliner. This form of transportation will take guests to either Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Epcot, round trip, from the following resorts:
- Art of Animation
- Pop Century
- Caribbean Beach Resort
- *NEW* Riviera Resort (opening end of 2019)
There are rumors that this system will not have air conditioning, so only time will tell if this will be a popular way to transport guests or not. Florida is not very forgiving in the dead heat of summer!
Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World
Finally, and most importantly to me, Walt Disney World’s version of Galaxy’s Edge will open in the “late fall” of this year. So far, it seems like it will be the same experience at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Two confirmed rides that we know of are “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” and “Millenium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run.”As more info is released, I’ll definitely keep my posts updated!
