I love the holidays. From October to February, our house feels like one big celebration that never ends! Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, our anniversary, the girls’ birthday…see what I mean? SO many fun celebrations to be had!
The Thanksgiving season has a special place in our hearts because it is truly the one time of year where every single member of our family makes an effort to come together. It’s a lot of fun to go from a partially full home to a home so full of people we have to borrow tables in order to have enough places for everyone to sit! If my girls remember anything about their childhoods, I hope it’s how full our home was during the holidays. I have fond memories of nabbing the last chair in the room from my brother one year and squeezing onto an ottoman with my cousin, while balancing a plate full of food, the following year!
Having a family gathering can be an arduous task, but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re a little stressed this holiday season, follow my tips below and give yourself a break!
I know it’s not as popular to register for fine china anymore, but that was one of the things I was really looking forward to receiving as a wedding gift. I have such fond memories of using the “good” china on “special occasions” when I was a child, I want to pass that tradition on to my kids too. My girls always know it’s a special occasion when mommy pulls out the “good stuff!”
Tip 2: Incorporate meaningful décor into your holidays. Most of my seasonal décor has been handed down from my grandmother or my mother to me. I do, occasionally, buy some new décor here and there, but I really love opening up the storage box and reliving my childhood. Even when we weren’t home for the holidays, my mom would bring a box of decorations so we could “spruce up” the place we were staying and make it feel more like home. Another meaningful item that acts as décor and serving ware is my husband’s grandmother’s serving bowl. It doesn’t really “match” my personal china, but you know what? I think about her every time I use it, and I know Neil does too. To me, the holidays are all about remembering the old and making the new.
Tip 3: Take time to pause and enjoy the holidays.I don’t know about you, but sometimes the holidays send me into a frenzy. Do we have enough towels for our guests? Will we have enough seating? When’s the last time someone cleaned the guest bathroom? Seriously, it can overwhelm me if I don’t get a handle on it quickly! Luckily, I have found some great products that speed up the cleaning process so that I can actually sit down and enjoy my holiday instead of cleaning all week!To clean all of our bathrooms, I use Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel, Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner, and Windex® Original Glass Wipes. My favorite part of using these products is how easy they make it to clean my home and keep it that way. The Windex® Original Glass Wipes are fantastic on a multitude of surfaces including glass, mirrors, and windows, and the Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner not only removes soap scum and grime, but it kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria. When you have a lot of guests in your home, it’s nice to know you can get a handle on the germs following in and out! Can we talk about the simplicity of the Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel? You use the dispenser to stamp a cleaning gel onto the surface of your toilet bowl, and it keeps cleaning your toilet bowl for 7 days!! No more hard scrubbing for me!
