Birmingham AL Pumpkin Patch Locations and Festivals
Alabama Fair

The Alabama Fair at Oak Mountain has plenty of enjoyment for the whole family. The fair opens to the public on September 27 and runs through October 1. There will be food, animal races, live music, and, of course, rides! General admission is $10 for everyone age five and older. Kids under five are free, and there will be one discount day for rides! Typically, ride passes are $25 each or $30 on Saturday/Sunday. Unlimited rides on Tuesday, September 28, will only cost $15. Discount day is a great way to enjoy the fair without spending a ton of money.
Old Baker Farm
Old Baker Farm is a family-friendly pumpkin patch that almost every local visits at least once in their lifetime. Admission to Old Baker Farm includes everything (yes, a hayride and a pumpkin) except food, arts and crafts, horseback rides, face painting, and various other activities. From September 30 to October 31, they are open weekdays after 3 pm-dark, Saturdays from 9 am-dark, and Sundays from 1 pm-dark. October 14-15 is “Cowboy Weekend” and October 21-22 is “American History Weekend.”
The Great Pumpkin Patch
Another exciting family activity is visiting The Great Pumpkin Patch in Hayden, AL. This one will take you about 35 minutes to drive to, so consider it a day trip for the family. General admission to the farm is free! They have great activities like pumpkin picking, inflatables, and a petting zoo. Your cost is based on whatever activity you decide to do. This could be very affordable if you only want to pick a pumpkin for Halloween!
Majestic Caverns (Formerly DeSoto Caverns)
Majestic Caverns is a neat experience year-round, but it is especially fun in the fall. Everlast is their new event, replacing its previous iteration, Tomb of the Risen Dead. The new event is less about spookiness and more about a medieval quest and mysterious, family-friendly fun. Enjoy live entertainment ranging from fire dancing to acrobatics, comedic juggling, and more! This event happens every Friday and Saturday night beginning October 4 from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
Hoots and Howls: A Daytime Halloween Event at the Birmingham Zoo
Don your best costume and head to the Birmingham Zoo for Hoots and Howls. This daytime Halloween event takes place every Saturday and Sunday beginning October 14. From 10 am to 4 pm, visitors can enjoy trick-or-treat trails, dance to the DJ, play yard games on Henley Lawn, or ride the Red Diamond Express Train. Tickets can be purchased for the candy trails only or for rides and the candy trail. Zoo admission is required and not included with the purchase of candy trail tickets or rides and candy trail wristbands.
Griffin Farms in West Blocton
Griffin Farms is located in West Blocton, Alabama, about an hour west of Birmingham. Admission includes a hayride and pumpkin, rope climbs, tire swings, a petting zoo, a hay maze, and more! This pumpkin patch will open on October 1 and will be open every weekend in October. Hours are 10 am-6 pm on Saturdays and noon-6 pm on Sundays. Admission is $10 per person ages two and older, and it includes all activities around the farm. It does not include the price of a pumpkin if you want to take one of those home.
4D Family Farms in Cullman
Cullman, Alabama is the host of 4D Family Farms located on County Road 703. Zip lines, slides, a bounce pillow, and a corn maze await families who travel north looking for fall family fun! 4D Farms is almost an hour’s drive from the Birmingham area. If your family is planning a day trip to Cullman, 4D Farms opens September 29, and their hours are Thursdays, 2-7 pm, Fridays, 2-9 pm, Saturdays, 10 am-9 pm, and Sundays, 1-7 pm.
Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum
Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum is a family favorite! The Pumpkin Junction is a fun way to get the family together for good old-fashioned pumpkin pickin’. The round-trip train ride takes about 75 minutes and includes pumpkin picking, a hayride, a bouncy house, and more family activities. Best of all? Children 2 and younger are free with a paid adult! Pumpkin Junction can be experienced the first three weekends in October. The train leaves for the junction at 10 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm on Saturdays and 1 pm and 3 pm on Sundays.
Helena Hollow

As the name suggests, Helena Hollow is located in Helena, AL. It opens on October 1 and runs every Friday through Sunday in October. Friday tickets are the least expensive, but admission includes a lot. A petting zoo, slides, a climbing wall, swings, and a hayride to the patch are included with your admission. Picking a pumpkin to take home is an extra cost, but you don’t have to purchase one if you don’t want to.
