Target Beauty Box Review: What It Is and How to Get One

Try before you buy! One of my favorite things about my previous job (working full time for a department store cosmetics line) was the ability to try products before I invested in them. I was, however, limited to (mostly) cosmetics. What if you could try other products before you bought them? Lotion? Dry shampoo? Hair color? Well, now you can with the monthly “Beauty Box” courtesy of Target.

Target Beauty Box Review

I am a loyal Target shopper and have been for years. I’m still wary of online shopping when it comes to clothing (I just need to try it on, ya know?), but for most other things, I’m good with it. However, I’ve never thought about buying beauty products online until this month when I got that magical Target email that lured me in.Target Beauty Box EmailUsually I can scroll through and ignore it, but not this month.

What is a Target Beauty Box

As far as I can tell from the website, the Target Beauty Box has been available for purchase once, each month, for the last few years. Unlike other subscription boxes, you do not have to subscribe to to get a beauty box.

Simply check your email, purchase the box for $7 (plus a 5% discount and free shipping if you have a REDcard), and watch your mailbox like a hawk.

How to Get a Target Beauty Box

First, you’ll want to sign up for Target emails if you haven’t already done so. While you could also set yourself a reminder to check the website monthly, it would probably be easiest to get an email reminder.

Don’t feel like you need all the Target emails. Adjust your subscription accordingly.

Once you receive the email, hop to it! I didn’t realize how popular these boxes were, so I just lazily ordered mine the day I got the email, but I didn’t really bother with telling anyone else about it.Target March Beauty Box

As I began writing this post, the boxes officially SOLD OUT for March. Sorry, y’all. I promise I’ll alert everyone next month!

What’s in a Target Beauty Box

Each month, trending items are picked out for you to try in sample size. The items are all beauty items and will vary between cosmetics, hair care, and/or body care items.

In March, I received:

  • Clairol Color Crave Hair Makeup (Brilliant Red)
  • Nexxus Clean & Pure Resfreshing Mist Dry Shampoo
  • Pantene Sheer Volume Foam Conditioner
  • Wet ‘n Wild Icon Eyeshadow Quad
  • No7 Early Defence Glow Activating Serum
  • St. Ives Skin Renewing Collagen Elastin Body Lotion
  • Olay Cleansing Infusion Natural Glow

Why You’ll Want a Target Beauty Box

I received 7 samples and the box cost me $7 (and some change). One of the samples was close to full size and would have cost me $10 to purchase if I’d wanted that extra 1/2 ounce in the full size. I’m excited to give it a try without wasting a ton of cash on the unkown.

I had been getting emails about these beauty boxes for months, but nothing really appealed to me in previous ones. That’s the beauty of the Target box. It didn’t cost me anything to pass those boxes by until I found one with samples I actually wanted to try.Target Beauty Box ContentsEven though my first box ended up having a broken sample (RIP Wet ‘n Wild eyeshadow), I’m still glad I purchased it to give the other samples a try.

Bottom Line

Sign up for emails and don’t delete them right away (especially if the subject line contains the words “Beauty Box”)!

Decide if you want to purchase this month’s box.
