Orlando, Florida, is known for its sunny skies and mostly mild weather. Disney World can stay open year-round because there aren’t as many temperature extremes as there are in other parts of the country – but what do you do when bad weather strikes?

First, and foremost, Disney World (almost) never closes. There have been a few rare exceptions over the years, mostly involving hurricanes. Typically, however, Disney World stays open, rain or shine. Stay and Play

Yes, you read that right. Stay and play in the rain at Disney World! While other families are bolting for their cars or hotel rooms, pull out that poncho or umbrella and keep going!A rainy day at Disney is better than no day at Disney. We’ve had our fair share of rainy days, and, often, they don’t last! Guests will leave the park immediately, but by the time the sun is back out, and the wait times for rides will have lowered significantly!

Resort Hop

One of my favorite things to do at Disney World is resort hop.Visit other resorts on a rainy day. Park at the Transportation and Ticket Center and ride the monorail over to the Grand Floridian or even the Contemporary.Resort hop when the weather is bad at Disney World. Enjoy a character meal, check out the decor (especially during the holidays), or just discover the unique elements that make each resort distinctly different.

Visit Indoor Area Attractions

So, you stayed out in the elements for a day or two, but the weather just isn’t getting any better. What happens now? Stay inside, but don’t stay in your hotel room! Venture outside Disney World for a better look at Orlando.Enjoy a movie inside a theater. Visit a museum, take in a movie, or drive out of the city to the beaches if you can. You never know what you may find if you drive just a little further away from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks! No matter how you choose to handle the bad weather, don’t let it ruin your vacation! Laugh at your situation, and figure out the best way to make the most of it.
